L'Ametlla de Mar

“La Cala”: unspoilt coves and bluefin tuna

L'Ametlla de Mar, “la Cala” to the locals, is a fishing village of white houses and a seafaring soul, at the gateway to the Delta. With almost 20 kilometres of unspoilt coast and more than thirty coves of crystal-clear water, it's one of the most beautiful and best-preserved spots in Catalonia, far from mass tourism.

Coves for every taste

Along its coastline lie sandy coves with amenities, such as Cala Forn, Cala Calafató — perfect for snorkelling — or Sant Jordi d'Alfama beach beside its castle; and unspoilt coves of turquoise water like Santes Creus or L'Illot, reached on foot through the pines. Many fly the Blue Flag.

The town of bluefin tuna

L'Ametlla is world-famous for its Mediterranean bluefin tuna. Here you can enjoy a unique experience: swimming alongside giant tuna and then tasting them. Its port — for decades the only exclusively fishing port in Catalonia — still hosts the daily auction at the Fishermen's Guild.

Sea and tranquillity

Stroll through the old town of white streets, watch the boats come into the port and enjoy sailing or diving in its seabeds. L'Ametlla is a byword for authenticity and calm by the sea.
